HONORING NELSON MANDELA

Nelson Mandela's long life included persecution,  imprisonment, and a triumphant return to power. He was likely a communist and at times didn't much care for the United States, but he will be remembered as a great hero in South Africa. Additionally, he should be honored as a leader who prevented a horrible blood bath and civil war in his beloved nation.

In a world of brutal despots, vindictive leaders, and power crazed politicians, President Mandela was  exceptional. He consistently sought out peace, lived humbly, and never became addicted to absolute power. His behavior, tenor, and performance was closer to that of Gandhi, Martin Luther King, or George Washington than most world leaders over the past few centuries.

As this outstanding man finished his life,  he should be honored and remembered as a patriot to his nation and the black peoples of Africa. Our world would be a better place if there were more Nelson Mandelas.
