BECKY GERRITSON A PATRIOT

At a June (2013) House Ways and Means Committee meeting about IRS harassment of Tea Party groups a citizen spoke up. And, a patriot of the highest order was revealed. It is important that we revisit and ponder the stirring words of Ms. Becky Gerritson. Here are a portion of her remarks:

"I AM NOT HERE AS A SERF OR VASSAL. I AM NOT BEGGING MY LORDS FOR MERCY. I'M A BORN FREE AMERICAN WOMAN, WIFE, MOTHER, AND CITIZEN. AND I'M TELLING MY GOVERNMENT THAT YOU'VE FORGOTTEN YOUR PLACE. IT'S NOT YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO LOOK OUR FOR MY WELL BEING AND TO MONITOR MY SPEECH. IT'S NOT YOUR RIGHT TO ASSERT AN AGENDA. YOUR POST, THE POST THAT YOU OCCUPY, EXISTS TO PRESERVE AMERICAN LIBERTY. YOU'VE SWORN TO PERFORM THAT DUTY. AND YOU HAVE FALTERED."

In my opinion, it's about time more citizens remind arrogant politicians and their bureaucratic lap dogs that government has gotten too big and far too obtrusive in our lives and liberties.  Our American freedoms painfully evolved over the last four hundred years and should not be traded for government handouts. Politicians of all stripes are guilty of violating the Constitution with czars, legislative tricks, and an attitude that they dispense the rights. Do recent revelations of scandals and misconduct reflect a good system in decline ?

In the eighteenth century King George and the greatest military superpower of the world learned that Americans would not tolerate a monarchy. The king believed that God gave him all the rights. This monarchical system allowed him and his elite circle of royals to grant rights to the people as they wished. Now it seems many of our national leaders manifest the same attitude in their words and deeds.

The Tea Party is feared by political and media elites because it has honestly challenged the excessive spending, inefficiency, and mismanagement of the federal government. Their status quo is threatened by a groundswell of angry and well informed citizens who treasure their individual liberty. Our republican form of government is a difficult blend of citizen rights and responsibilities. Its not easy to be free. Sadly too many lazy citizens gladly trade their liberty for "cradle to grave" handouts and promises. Ultimately too many Americans more interested in their own immediate gratification may wreck our great nation.  Do we need more Becky Gerritson's ?
